ආදිතය

Aaditaya is a Sinhala rendering of the Sanskrit "Āditya", one of the most venerated names for the sun god in South Asian tradition, derived from "Aditi", the mother of the gods, making Aaditaya literally "son of Aditi" and by extension a name for the sun itself. In Sri Lankan cosmology influenced by both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, the sun is revered as the source of all life, warmth, and illumination, and its daily rising was celebrated in ancient rituals and inscriptions. The name carries connotations of sovereign authority — just as the sun governs the heavens without pause, a person bearing this name is envisioned as a natural leader whose energy and generosity sustain those around him. Sinhala poetry frequently employs solar imagery to describe kings and heroes whose brilliance could not be diminished. A son named Aaditaya is thus blessed with the aspiration that his life will radiate warmth, purpose, and a golden light that guides all who walk in his presence.
