ශ්රී ලංකා ජනප්රවාදයේ සහ සඳ කිඳුරු ජාතකය වැනි බෞද්ධ සාහිත්ය කථා වල එන, පරම පිවිතුරු ආදරය සහ සංගීතයට ලැදි අර්ධ මානුෂීය දිව්යමය සත්ත්වයෙකු වන 'කිඳුරිය' ඇසුරින් මෙම නම නිර්මාණය වී ඇත. 'කිඳු' යනු එම සදාතනික ආදරයේ සහ ස්වභාවික සෞන්දර්යයේ සංකේතයකි.
